
Have you ever used the word “euphoric” in daily conversations? It simply means “happy” or “joyous“. This words originally comes from the noun “euphoria”, which means “joy” or “happiness”. The initial “eu” means “well” in Greek and the latter, “phoria“, means “bear” or “carry“. Therefore the literal meaning is “bearing well” or “carrying well”. Other synonyms of the word may be “bliss“, “delight” or even “heaven”. The origin of the word “euphoria” dates back to 1700s. However, the English “-ic” (or the French -ique suffix) suffix was added to make the noun an adjective. The Turkish equivalent of the word is the expression “sevinçten havalara uçan” (literally, flying in the air with happiness). In addition, some Turkish speakers rarely use the word “öforik“, which can be regarded as a plastic use. Here are some examples for you:
