The word “nifty” simply means “smart”, “good-looking”, and “stylish”. Another word that may describe the word better is “contemporary”, which is a more formal word than the former. To look into the word etymologically, the word is an old word which is not used frequently.  Even though it dates back to 1800s, we can see various uses of this word in modern English. Here are some examples from the past and the present.

  • I can’t talk about toys in San Antonio without mentioning nifty toy vending machines.
  • This is a nifty feature that can come in handy for avid users.
  • Sarah showed me a nifty trick to organize my closet more efficiently.
  • The new smartphone has a nifty feature that allows you to unlock it with just your voice.

  • Türkiye’s bazaars are full of nifty finds.
  • Türkiye’s cuisine is a nifty fusion of diverse flavors.

The Turkish equiavalence of the word “nifty” is “şık“, “havalı“, “güzel“, “akıllı” or “zeki“. Here are some examples in Turkish:

  • Bu yeni akıllı saat, oldukça havalı özelliklere sahip. (nifty features)
