What does this man don?
As a verb, the word “don” is the contraction of “do” and “on” and it means put on or wear. Similarly, the word “doff” is the contraction of “do” and “off” , which means “take off” , “remove” or “undress” . Both words (don and doff) date back to 1400s. It is equally interesting to see that the word “don” in Azerbaijani Turkish is “dress” , and it is underwear in Turkish spoken in Türkiye (Turkey). The Turkish equivalent of the word “don” is “giyinmek“. The Turkish equivalent of the word “doff“, however, means “çıkarmak” or “silmek“.
